The Local Voices of Redding, California.

Cinda Baxter, founder of The 3/50 Project will be speaking in Redding at a breakfast meeting.

Baxter will share how the Project came to be, what it’s grown into today and how you can use it to strengthen your business, followed by questions.

The 3/50 Project supports independent, locally owned businesses by inspiring consumer loyalty to the storefronts that directly fund their communities. Think of three businesses you’d miss if they went away. Stop in. Say hello. Pick up a little something that makes you smile. That’s what keeps them around, after all.

Shasta.com is proud to include Free Fire Media radio station KCNR AM 1460 as a sponsor and advertiser.  The station owned by Carl and Linda Bott is the area’s newest radio station.  The station format is talk radio with a mix of local commentators covering local issue on Saturdays and syndicated shows like The Dennis Miller Show, The Laura Ingraham Show and Dr. Laura Schlessinger during the week.

The station starts broadcasting at 6am Monday-Friday with radio veteran Jim Bremer covering the news.  From 7-9am am the Botts take over with Free Fire Radio, conducting interviews with local business people, interesting people and political candidates.  The Bott’s add even more to the mix by doing a remote broadcast of their show every Friday at Tobacco and Brew on Hilltop Dr on Friday mornings.  The syndicated shows follow after.

The station can be found on the web at www.freefireradio.com .  All shows are simulcast from their site.  This station is well worth your time to listen to.  They have brought local radio back to the area.

Shasta.com supports the effort to bring Google Fiber Optic bandwidth to our city.  If you would like to support this effort, we need your help.  Please read the following then follow the link below and nominate your city for Google Fiber.

BRING GOOGLE FIBER

Google recently announced a new pilot program to bring extremely high speed Internet connections to a select group of local communities.  This program will be “game changing” for the selected communities.  Access to this type of bandwidth (1Gbps connections to the home/small business) would have a major impact on the local economy and would open up tremendous new opportunities.  I sent the below email message today to some of our local government leaders to encourage their leadership in trying to attract this investment from Google but I wanted to send out this message to encourage the various groups that you’re all associated with (Chamber of Commerce, Shasta Technology Association, EDC, Shasta Builders Exchange, Etc.) to also express your support for this program both to other community leaders and to Google.  You can submit a nomination for Redding to help show community support for the project at the following site:  http://www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi

Civil Blogging in Northern California

Welcome – Blogs.Shasta.com

Welcome to our new Blog Site. It is our hope that the communities that we serve in Redding and Northern California will benefit from having a world class forum where people can communicate freely about current events happening in our community. This forum will also serve as a destination for individuals, businesses and organizations to communicate their wishes and desires for a better community.

We believe that the new paradigm of the internet has created the ability for the people in our communities to share ideas, thoughts, plans, and suggestions openly about issues that arise from day to day. Blogs and Forums have created a new powerful medium for people to espouse their views on a wide variety of topics. It is our intention to offer this new technology for use by and for the benefit of the people living in our communities. We have seen people use this new technology without regard to the negative consequences to the community. It is our intent for our forums to be informative and a constructive and positive influence on the direction our communities are taking.

We ask that all participants observe some general rules of good behavior when communicating their opinions about topics in our Forums. Below are some links to what others have said about “Good Forum Etiquette”. We agree with what the worldwide community has said about Etiquette in Forums/Blogs and will enforce to the best of our ability a policy of good behavior in these forums so that all who participate do so in the spirit of good communication and with the betterment of our community in mind.
